Wildcats Head East to Winnipeg
The Edmonton Wildcats head on the road once again, to face the 2-1 Winnipeg Rifles at Canad Inns Stadium on Sunday Sept 19th at Noon.
Winnipeg is coming off a bye week and is eager to get back into the swing of things, while the Wildcats are coming off a tough lose last weekend in Calgary. They want to put that game behind them and focus on this weekend’s matchup with the Rifles. The Cats can take away some positives from last weekends contest in that the defense played solid fundamental football while the offense still has some work to do. Coach Durchik will be working them hard this week in preparation for Winnipeg. The weekend is critical to the Cats if they want to be assured of a playoff spot in the PFC. That means they will have to be firing on all cylinders going into the Peg in order to put themselves in the win column.
The offence which is being led by 2nd year Quarterback Adam Senuik was 11 of 33 for 159yds in the game against the Colts. Adam will be focused on stepping up his productivity in the passing department along with better decision making in the contest with the Rifles. To Senuik’s credit he did throw for 3 TD’s in last Sunday’s matchup and made some good reads, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win against a tough Colts defense. Consistency, discipline and sustained drives will be the key to the Wildcats success in Winnipeg.
On Defense, Linebacker Kevin Hanson who is second in defensive points in the PFC, along with Linebackers Mike Podloski and Steven Rae will need to come up large this weekend and be a dominant force in the secondary once again. One of the keys on defense will be stopping the run and putting pressure on the Rifles Quarterback, shutting down the passing game which the Cats are starting to improve on with strong performances from Gabriel David and Rory Connop on the D-Line
All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field around 7:00 pm nightly.
