Edmonton Wildcats lose to Winnipeg Rifles at Investors Field

The Edmonton Wildcats had their three game winning streak ended by the Winnipeg Rifles at Investors Field on Sunday.

The Rifles took an early lead in the game, with a touchdown from Matthew Lariviere at the 2:19 mark. The Wildcats responded exactly four minutes later with a Jordan Olson touchdown, tying the game 7-7. The Rifles got a field goal (by Brad Mikuloff) at 10:32, pushing them back into the lead 10-7. The Wildcats fought back with a Brad Quartel touchdown with a minute left in the 1st, taking a 14-10 lead. The first quarter ended with a Rifles touchdown by Kurt Goodrich, taking their lead back with a score of 17-14. The second quarter saw only two field goals – the first one at 9:19 by Brad Mikuloff of the Rifles. The second was by Wildcat Ideen Samadi with 9 seconds left in the first half, ending it with a score of 20-17 for the Rifles.

Early in the third, the Wildcats gave up a safety enhancing the Rifles lead by 2 points. Matthew Lariviere pushed another Rifles touchdown through at 4:40, which was followed shortly by a Wildcats interception-return touchdown by Riley Aitken narrowing the Rifles lead to 29-24. At 9:55, Kurt Goodrich scored a Rifles touchdown, ending the third with a score of 36-24. The fourth quarter saw a touchdown by Rifle Matthew Lariviere at 3:50 and a field goal by Brad Mikuloff at 12:07, ending the game with a score of 46-24 for the Rifles.

Offensively the Wildcats had a total of 383 yards, with 225 yards rushing and 176 yards passing. Quarterback Jordan Olson completed 13 out of 21 passing attempts for 176 yards and scored one touchdown. Receiver Brad Quartel had 5 catches for a total of 53 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively for the Wildcats, Riley Aitken and Ryan Migadel led the team with 13 points each.

The Wildcats play again Sunday, September 29 against the Saskatoon Hilltops at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton. Game time is 1pm.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
