Edmonton Wildcats vs Calgary Colts Season Opener
The Edmonton Wildcats will be hosting their season opener against the Calgary Colts this Sunday, August 14th 1:00pm.at Clarke Parke.
The Wildcats are coming off a less than stellar 3 and 5 season, which saw the Wildcats miss the playoffs for the first time since 1995. The Cats will be determined to make amends and rebound from a frustrating season last year and will be focused on securing another PFC Title in 2011.
The Wildcats are now guided by Head Coach Darcy Park, who has QB Anthony Johnson who tossed for 727 yards after starting the year as a pass catcher, back at pivot, along with Taylor Souster who ran for 553 yards & 3 majors last season. Josh Tunke, PFC rookie of the year will fortify the O-line along with returning veteran Logan Trachuk and Scott Ledieu. Locking down the secondary will be 5th year Miguel Barker, 5th year Kris Gibson and 4th year Kael Schryver. Wide Receiver Mitch Richter will be back for his 3rd year with the Cats and looks to have a breakout year with the quad in 2011.Another returning vet 5th year Steve Giang will be returning as a dominant force to support the defensive line along with Linebacker Kevin Hanson who accumulated the most defensive points for the Wildcats in 2010.
The Wildcats will be looking to continue their success this season against the Colts after winning the final game of the regular season last year at Clarke Stadium, where they scratched out a 27-24 win.
This year looks very positive for the Wildcats, with a good crop of rookies and returning veterans. The players are eager to get the season underway and are looking forward to the season opener against the Colts on Sunday.
All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field around 7:00 pm nightly.
