Wildcats Battle for Second Place with Hilltops at Clarke
The 4-2 Edmonton Wildcats host the 5-1 Saskatoon Hilltops this Sunday September 30th at Clarke Park start time 1:00pm. The Hilltops currently occupy 2nd place in the conference while the Wildcats are looking to grab a share of that spot this weekend.
Offensively the Wildcats racked up over 600 yds in offense with rookie running back Jordan Samoil breaking a single game rushing record for the PFC and CJFL this past weekend against the Huskies and is currently leading the conference with 1279 rushing yards. Samoil will be looking for another big game against the Hilltops but it could be tuff sledding as the Hilltops have been solid against the run this year and will want to focus on shutting him down and limiting him to minimal yardage. That could be a tall order as Samoil has had two 300 plus rushing games this season which also ties a CJFL record. Jordan Olson has been spreading the ball around quite nicely in the last few games and Tyler Henry and Brad Quartel have been a couple of his favorite targets. Quartel is currently 7h in receiving with 30 catches for 368 yds and 2 TD’s while Tyler Henry and Ryan Smith are not far behind and catching up quickly.
Defensively DB Adam Laurensse has been putting up some solid numbers and is currently 4th in the conference with 71 defensive points while LB Aiden Panchyshyn is just outside the top ten with 60 points. The defense will need to focus on dominating the line of scrimmage this weekend and keeping the Hilltops QB out of rhythm if they want to come away with a win as the Hilltops have been posting some impressive offensive numbers of late. Ideen Samadi continues to have a good rookie season with his field goal kicking as he won special teams player of the week in the lose to Calgary a couple of weeks ago and is currently 2nd behind Jordan Samoil in scoring points with 60.
Next game sees the Wildcats hit the road for their final regular season game against the Regina Thunder Sunday October 7th 1:00pm at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.
All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
