Wildcats Defeat Huskies 50-18!
The Edmonton Wildcats broke the 3-0 winning streak of cross-town rivals the Edmonton Huskies this afternoon at Clarke Stadium!
The Wildcats took the lead in the first quarter with a touchdown from Levon Hawreliak, making the score 7-0 at the end of the first. The second quarter started out hot with a safety at the 2:12 mark, bringing the score to 9-0 Wildcats. Shortly after that, Andre Leduc from the Huskies scored a touchdown, putting them on the scoreboard at 9-7. Halfway through the second, Wildcat Brad Quartel responded, scoring a touchdown bringing the Wildcats lead to 16-7. Jonathan Heidebrecht from the Huskies scored a field goal, followed two minutes later by a Wildcats field goal kicked by Ideen Samadi, keeping the Wildcats with a 9 point lead of 19-10. The second quarter ended with the Huskies missing a field goal, giving them a single point, bringing the first half of the game to an end with a score of 19-11 for the Wildcats.
The third quarter saw a touchdown at the 14:03 mark from Wildcat Chase Nahrebeski, giving the Wildcats a 26-11 lead going into the final quarter. The action picked up for the fourth with Jonathan Heidebrecht from the Huskies scoring a touchdown 0:20 in. Wildcat Brad Quartel pushed a touchdown through a minute and a half later, bringing the score to 33-18. Wildcat Levon Hawreliak scored two touchdowns a minute and a half apart, giving the Wildcats a 47-18 lead half way through the fourth. Ideen Samadi, the Wildcats kicker, finished the quarter off with a field goal, ending the game with a final score of 50-18 Wildcats.
Offensively the Wildcats racked up 690 total yards, with 426 yards rushing and 284 yards passing. Quarterback Jordan Olson completed 12 of 19 passing attempts for 284 yards leading to 2 touchdowns. Levon Hawreliak had a great game with 29 carries for a total of 363 yards and 3 touchdowns. Receiver Brad Quartel had 5 catches for 175 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.
Defensively for the Wildcats, Ryan Migadel and Aidan Panchyshyn led the team with 12 points each. Migadel had 6 tackles, and Panchyshyn had 4 tackles and 1 interception.
