Wildcats Fall to Hilltops 29-20

The Edmonton Wildcats fell short to the Saskatoon Hilltops for the second week in a row yesterday afternoon at Gordie Howe Bowl in Saskatoon.

The first quarter saw little action, with the only score being a safety conceded by the Hilltops, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Early in the second quarter the Wildcats surrendered a single point, decreasing their lead to 2-1. 3:35 into the second, the Hilltops got a touchdown by Graham Unruh, stealing the lead 8-2. This touchdown was followed by two more, both by Andre Lalonde at 8:13 and 10:00, giving the Hilltops a 21-2 lead. The Wildcats responded with a last-second field goal by Ideen Samadi, ending the first half with a 21-5 Hilltops lead.

The third quarter had no scoring changes until the last 30 seconds when Wildcat Rick LeMoignan got a touchdown, reducing the Hilltops lead to 22-12. The Wildcats started the fourth quarter out with a Brad Quartel touchdown. The convert was missed, bringing the score to 22-18 for the Hilltops. The Hilltops responded with another Andre Lalonde touchdown at 7:28, enhancing their lead to 29-18. With 45 seconds left in the game the Hilltops conceded a safety, ending the game with a final score of 29-20 for the Hilltops.

Offensively the Wildcats had a total of 379 yards, 173 rushing and 230 passing. Running Back Levon Hawreliak lead the rushing with 25 carries for 119 yards. Quarterback Jordan Olson carried 11 times for 54 yards, and completed 14 of 24 passing attempts for a total of 201 yards. Levi Williams caught 7 times for 121 yards. He was followed by Brad Quartel who caught 5 times for 57 yards and scored a touchdown.

The Wildcats Defense was lead by Luke Roberts and Kieran Thomas who had 12 points each. Roberts had 2 tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 1 blocked kick, and 1 pass knock down. Thomas has 5 tackles and 1 special teams tackle.

The Wildcats will have their last regular season game Saturday October 12 at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton. Game time is 2pm.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
