Wildcats Fall to Rifles on Home Field
The Edmonton Wildcats ended their 2-0 winning streak on Sunday afternoon when they fell 27-20 against the Winnipeg Rifles.
The first quarter saw little movement on the score board with the only points being given to the Rifles when the Wildcats conceded a safety 7:02 in. The second quarter started with an Ideen Samadi field goal at 3:24 giving the Wildcats a 3-2 lead. The Rifles quickly took their lead back with a Brad Mikoluff field goal 9:41 in, bringing the score to 5-3. Wildcat Landyn Vick saw the end zone at 11:23 giving the Çats a 10-5 lead. Shortly after Ryan Smith got another Wildcat touchdown, making it 17-5 with only 2:20 left in the first half. The Rifles pushed a Colton Smith touchdown through with less than a minute left in the half, decreasing the Wildcat lead to 17-12.
The third quarter saw only one touchdown by Rifle Kurt Goodrich 1:24 into the quarter, giving the Rifles a 19-17 lead. Wildcat Ideen Samadi kicked a field goal at 10:46 into the fourth quarter, giving the Wildcats a 1 point lead, which was lost when Kurt Goodrich pushed another touchdown through with only 2:29 left in the game, ending the game with a score of 27-20 for the Rifles.
The Wildcats offense saw 328 yards, 82 rushing and 268 passing. Anthony Myroon lead the rushing with 9 carries for 53 yards. Receiver Ryan Smith lead the pass receiving with 5 catches for 223 yards, followed by Landyn Vick with 5 catches for 64 yards. Quarterback Jordan Olson completed 19 of 37 passing attempts for a total of 268 yards.
The Wildcats defense was lead by Isaiah Hoeppner who had 6 tackles and one pass knock down for a total of 14 points. He was followed by Marcus Goods who had 13 points consisting of 5 tackles and 1 quarterback sack.
