Wildcats In A Semi-Final Showdown With The Hilltops

The 5-3 Edmonton Wildcats head to Saskatoon for a Semi Final showdown against the 6-2 Hilltops at The Gordie Howe Bowl on Sunday October 14th start time 1:00pm. After a decisive win on the road over the Thunder in Regina, the Wildcats are hungry for more as they strive to get back to the PFC Final and claim top honors in the conference as they did back in 2009.

Offensively Taylor Yaremchuk will be looking for another solid outing after throwing for over 380 yards in last weekend’s tilt against the Thunder, with his favorite targets on the day being Tylor Henry hauling in 6 catches for 126 yards with a TD and a 74 yard bomb to Ryan Smith. The running game has been dominant all year with Jordan Samoil and Levon Hawreluik who is starting to immerge as a great complement to Samoil’s running game. On special teams the Cats will be relying on the leg of Ideen Samadi who led the conference regular season in points scored with 85 and was second in Kickoff average.

Defensively the Cats will be relying on LB Aiden Panchyshyn and Adam Laurensse to fortify the secondary. Laurensse put himself in the record books with 8 interceptions in a regular season, placing him tied for 3rd with 3 other players. Panchyshyn meanwhile is third overall in the PFC for defensive points with 99.5 after an excellent rookie season.

The last time these two teams met at the Gordie Howe Bowl was last year in the regular season campaign and it was a close defensive battle with the Hilltops coming out on top 10-7. These are 2 evenly matched teams and should make for another exciting and close game this weekend.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
