Wildcats Lassoed by Colts

The Edmonton Wildcats drop to 3-2 and a share of second place with the Saskatoon Hilltops and The Regina Thunder after a very close hard fought lose to the Colts this past weekend in Calgary by a score of 31-23

The conferences top two clubs clashed for the second time in 3 weeks. The Colts downed the Wildcats 28-18 at Clarke Park two weeks ago and looked to put some breathing room between themselves and not only the Wildcats, but the Saskatoon Hilltops & Regina Thunder as well. The Wildcats on the other hand were focused on securing a share of first place in the conference

The Wildcats took an early 6-point lead compliments of a pair of Ideen Samadi field goals, and then the Colts bolted out to the lead as Jermaine Gabriel returned a kickoff 89 yards for the score. Samadi kicked his third field goal of the quarter to put the Cats back in front by a pair after one period.

Calgary regained the lead as Rodreke Joseph made a spectacular 10-yard grab from Derek Cooper who went 9 of 19 for 152 yards, one play after a Nik Petros touchdown grab was ruled incomplete as he caught the ball with his foot on the back of the end zone stripe. A David Ness punt single and Marshal Broom upped the score to 17-10 Colts, but Wildcats tailback Jordan Samoil scored his 9th touchdown of the year on a 1-yard run to tie the game at 17 after 30 minutes. Samoil ran for 161 yards on the day.
Colts tailback Chucks Okafor notched the lone score of the third quarter as he scampered 4 yards to give the Colts a 24-17 edge after 3.

Samadi would hit a pair of field goals, his second one being a 50-yard drive to pull the visitors to within a single point, but Okafor would clinch the win with a 5-yard touchdown to give the Colts a 31- 23 win and staying undefeated on the season.

Next week sees the Wildcats at home to host their cross town rivals the Huskies at Clarke Park under the lights on Friday September 21st game time 8:00pm.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
