Wildcats On The Road To Take On The Thunder
After last weekend’s drubbing of the cross town rival Edmonton Huskies, the Edmonton Wildcats hit the road this weekend traveling to Regina to face a tough opponent, the Regina Thunder, looking to lock down second place in the conference. The Wildcats are currently tied with the Thunder for second place and a win on the weekend will go a long way in securing a home playoff berth at Clarke Park. The up coming contest will be held at Mosaic Stadium on Sunday September 27th at 1:00pm.
Both teams are coming off decisive wins against their opponents and this weekend’s matchup should prove to be a tough battle for second place. The offence led by Andy Pilon will be looking to build on the momentum from their previous 2 wins with the passing and running game lead by Wide receiver Kevin Wuthrich who leads the conference in TD and receiving yds gained, while running back Justin McEvoy who is ranked 2nd in rushing looks to establish his game against the Thunders defense.. Special teams will remain a key factor in this contest with Kicker Ben Hnidan leading the PFC in points with 66 while Jerit Lambert and David Berg are both key returners for the Wildcats and have shown brilliants’ in returns this season.
Matt Lalande on defense is coming off another dominating game with 18 point against the Huskies and is looking for a strong outing again in the matchup this weekend, supported by Mike Podloski, Gabriel David and Rory Connop, with Corbin Sharun anchoring the secondary.
Special Teams Player of the Week
The rookie Wildcat Kicker/Punter picks up his 2nd award in 3 weeks on the strength of his 16 points in his club’s 72-0 whitewash of their Clarke Park co-tenant Edmonton Huskies. Hnidan was 2 of 3 in field goal attempts, connecting from 21 & 37 yards out, and tacked on an 85-yard kickoff single to his 9 converts. Hnidan leads the conference scoring race with 66 points.
Next game sees the Wildcats back in Edmonton taking on the cross town rival Huskies in their last game of the regular season at Clarke Park on Saturday October 3rd 7:00pm.
All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
